Biography
For over 20 years Tim Francom has been committed to providing high quality music education. In 2002 he became a faculty member of the Regent Park School of Music (now Community Music Schools of Toronto), where among other projects he created a large hand drumming group, and helped to develop the school’s music camps. He regularly appears as a clinician for TDSB events and programs. Tim offers individual lessons and group classes to suit any age or musical goals at his studio in the St Clair and Caledonia area of Toronto.
Tim’s teaching is informed by an extensive performing and research career. Based in Toronto, he has performed and recorded with orchestras and ensembles across the province. Most recently, this January Tim became the Principal Timpanist/Percussionist with London Symphonia. He joined the Windsor Symphony Orchestra as Section Percussionist in 2004, and regularly performs with many other groups including the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, the National Arts Centre Orchestra, and the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra, among others. A freelance musician in high demand, Tim can also be seen and heard in the worlds of contemporary music and musical theatre.
Tim holds a Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) degree from the University of Toronto where he studied percussion with Russell Hartenberger, John Rudolph, and Beverly Johnston. His research focused on elements of Indian tabla repertoire and technique. He was privileged to work with Prof. James Kippen as his research advisor, and to study tabla with Ustad Ilmas Hussain Khan.
